Centre of Culture

The implication that the library will house our culture is instruction on the future of information professionals.

Frey’s (1997) assertion (Trend #10) that the library will “…tap into the spirit of the community…” is vague and places the librarian as a sagelike figure. I find this totally inspirational!

Herring (2007) outlines models for Teacher Librarians and discusses future challenges saying

“Developing future information literate students will mean that teacher librarians and teachers will have to teach students how to apply their information literacy skills irrespective of what technology they are using and where they are finding and using information.”

This move away from being a physical resource custodian leads to exciting new dimensions for the library and information professionals. The library becomes less about literature and more about cross-cultural and intercontinental exchanges through technology!
